Dorothy J. Maver, Ph.D., Executive Director, River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding

Dot is an educator and peacebuilder whose keynote is inspiring cooperation on behalf of the common good. She is President of the National Peace Academy in the USA, and is a founder and serves on the leadership council for the Global Alliance for Ministries and Departments of Peace. She formerly served as President & CEO of Peace Partnership International where her work in education, politics and grassroots community organizing was focused on applied peacebuilding utilizing a shared responsibility and shared leadership model. From 2005 – 2007 Dot served as Executive Director of The Peace Alliance and Campaign for a US Department of Peace, and prior to that was the National Campaign Manager for Kucinich for President 2004. In the world of fast-pitch softball Dr. Dot is known for her revolutionary fast-pitch hitting technique, The Maver Method: Secrets of Hitting Success; she is co-author of the book Conscious Education: The Bridge to Freedom; and is a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator at conferences worldwide.

 

Jeffrey Weisberg, Program & Outreach Director (Board Secretary), River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding

As a Program Director, Jeffrey has designed, developed and implemented a wide range of programs and services in Gainesville, Florida and throughout the United States.  His work with youth includes peer mediation, juvenile diversion programs, youth empowerment and coming of age programs.  Jeffrey serves as a Florida Certified State Mediator and mediates cases involving juvenile offenders, family disputes and small business conflicts.  Jeffrey is a founding member of The Peace Alliance and has served on the Board for 8 years.  Jeffrey serves as a leader of men's work both locally "Exploring the Masculine" and nationally through The Mankind Project.  Jeffrey's personal mission is "to create a world of deep peace and vibrant connections by boldly loving and leading from his heart."  This unique opportunity as a husband/wife team with Heart, brings great joy and inspiration as we share our gifts and skills...not only with our local community... but with the world.

 

Heart Phoenix, Board President

Heart currently serves as Secretary of the Board of The Peace Alliance and is a member of The Peace Alliance Educational Institute Board as well. For the past five years, Heart has been the Executive Director of The Florida School of Traditional Midwifery , one of ten accredited direct entry midwifery schools in the country. She continues to serve as Vice President of the Board.   As a mother, grandmother and vegan for almost 35 years, her commitment to nonviolence to earth and all sentient beings has been the center point of her life and activism.    She is an international facilitator of workshops focusing on gender healing, youth empowerment, personal growth, breathwork and deep ecology.   Heart co-founded and served as President of The Peace Alliance from its founding until 2008.    The manifestation of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, in honor of her son, and working with her husband and children, is a dream come true.
