Susan Partnow is passionately committed to grassroots citizen action, peacemaking, twodialogue and community building. She facilitates processes that transform conflict and promote co-intelligence – all arising from a deep belief that we can and must 'listen our way to wholeness' and find our essential humanity through connection and dialogue.  For decades, Susan has helped create grassroots networks that work collaboratively and compassionately, from the founding of Families for Peace in the early 80’s to Global Citizen Journey in 2003. Susan has joined delegations of The Compassionate Listening Project to the Middle East, Peace Trees Vietnam, and the Citizen's Train to Washington D.C. Along with local partners in each country, Susan led Global Citizen Journey's inaugural trip to the creeks area of the Niger Delta where they built friendship, leadership, and the area’s first library. Subsequent Journeys included Ghana 2006 where they built an Orphanage/Community Center; Burundi 2008 where GCJ helped a women’s’ cooperative buy land, seed and tools; and most recently Liberia 2010 and 2011 to launch the Liberia Peacebuilder Initiativeby training a group of extraordinary, diverse Liberian leaders as trainers in Compassionate Listening, Restorative Circles and reconciliation, as well as facilitators of Open Space and World Café. She is currently working on a project to bring Restorative Circles to a women’s state prison outside of Seattle as an empowering, transformative way to bring healing and reduce violence in the prison.

Susan founded Partnow Communications 25 years ago to be a catalyst for individuals and work teams seeking positive changes through workshops, retreats, and coaching. She is currently a Sr. Organizational Development Consultant at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. She is especially dedicated to helping clients release and transform the energy locked in conflict and specializes in facilitating dialogue and large group processes, using cutting edge techniques such as Appreciative Inquiry, Spiral Dynamics, Dynamic Facilitation, World Café, and Open Space Technology. She is co-creator of Conversation Café, Let’s Talk America and served on the Steering Committee of the National Coalition on Dialogue and Deliberation as well as co-founder of the Transpartisan Alliance in Seattle, bringing people together across the political divide. She has served as Board President of Kadima Community School, the Earthstewards, and Puget Sound Global Peoples’ Assembly, as well as a board member of African American Jewish Coalition for Justice, Earth Charter Community Summit-Seattle and The Compassionate Listening Project.

A former teacher and speech pathologist, Susan received her M. A. as Rearwin Fellow in Communication Disorders (Northwestern University) and B.A. with honors (University of California Berkeley). She is a mediator and Senior Certified Facilitator of Compassionate Listening and Essential Peacemaking/Women & Men and is currently an apprentice with Dominic Barter, creator of Restorative Circles. She speaks Spanish, French plus some German and is the author of Everyday Speaking for All Occasions, Doubleday, 1998 and co-author of a new workbook, Practicing the Art of Compassionate Listening.

Susan lives in Seattle and is the proud mother of Tyler (grad student at CUNY) and Jessica (co-founder of The CLP) who embody the principles of compassionate listening and peacemaking in the world. Susan’s two Brittany dogs are a source of renewed compassion and love every day.
